A true holiday classic literally comes to life in this stunning pop-up edition of a seasonal favorite. For this special anniversary edition legendary paper engineer Robert Sabuda encloses his personal gifts towards the reader: extra pages making use of a pop-up Christmas tree with real lights aglow, and a beautiful pop-up ornament of two turtledoves. This beautiful anniversary package is one particular to treasure! The ornament is packaged with the book and is perfect for adding a celebratory touch to your tree. With a partridge popping, snow scattering, and lords a-leaping off the page, this lavish book is genuinely a gift for readers of all ages.
Robert Sabuda is usually to pop-up art what the International Grandmaster is to chess, and it isn't for nothing that he's described on the back of this book as a"paper engineer."As the title suggests, this whimsical, old-fashioned, elegant book embodies the Traditional Song of Abundant Giving--each verse of"The 12 Days of Christmas"is illustrated having a numerous pop-up creation. Other pop-ups are much a lot more characteristically bravura creations: the"Ten pipers piping"are crafted explicitly as decorative paper cut-outs, but the scissors that cut them are part inside the pop-up, too. Possibly the most complicated of the set is"Eleven Ladies Dancing."Interpreted as an old-fashioned music box, the 11 ladies dancing are little ballerinas, and the music box is total with drawer, back-mirror, and winding important. Sabuda's masterful The 12 Days of Christmas is full of nostalgia for the magic of childhood celebration--kids and adults alike could be happy to get this book as a holiday gift. Some are comparatively simple, for example the partridge (created of just two pieces of hinged paper) that opens its wings above some pears. Still, there is one factor unexpectedly bold about how the bird literally flies out more than the top margin of the page. (Ages 3 to 103) --Richard Farr
